Self Publishing – an experience of in 2011.

Following significant boring ‘technical’ issues trying to self publish via Amazon, I went for Lulu.com.

Follows the final email to author.

OK,

I’ve been pretty much on this all day.

I downloaded the main image from the PDF and spent 1.5 hours mucking around on Photoshop (which I love doing) with the second layer, being the words. Did my best to make them as visible as possible without detracting too much from the background.

I tried for several hours to find a way of converting the PDF into a format that Amazon would accept.

Judging from what I’ve read, this can be done but it’s extremely laborious and very few folks have managed to do it.

See the earlier FriendFeed thread which has new content.

In light of the dead end that I had reached, I uploaded a copy to Scribd which I’ve used many times over the years (in terms of uploading PDF’s). Looks OK-ish, but lots of clutter around it plus the hyperlinks in the PDF can’t be clicked on. Still it’s there, it’s tagged appropriately and you can track who looks at it.

Other than Amazon, I was aware that Lulu.com was another good place to consider. I forgot that I already had an account there (downloaded an ebook from there previously) so logged back in and navigated my way around in terms of publishing something.

I had to go back to Photoshop to resize the image to precisely 612 x 792 dpi scale to fit their requirements.

So here it is on Lulu.com http://www.lulu.com/gb/en/shop/linda-curreri/pentosan-polysulphate-a-medicine-made-from-beech-bark/ebook/product-15931746.html

OVERALL TIME SPENT TRYING TO UPLOAD ON AMAZON = 4 hours

OVERALL TIME SPENT UPLOADING TO LULU = 30 minutes.

Other than me doing the actual uploading etc. everything is rightly so in your name.

All of today’s work can be edited
, but I hope you may approve of my actions.

Right, time for din-dins….

Cheery,

Graham
